This May Day, join the rally for refugee rights and aboriginal sovereignty. A coalition of representatives from the Aboriginal community, trade unions, the Tamil community, Refugee Action Collective (VIC) and other refugee advocacy groups will be speaking at Trades Hall on May 1st to call for an end to the ‘Indonesian Solution’ to asylum seekers.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd declared a freeze on refugee claims by Sri Lankan and Afghani asylum seekers. In response, the Aboriginal Tent Embassy has decided to issue Original Nation Passports to welcome each of the refugees held in Merak.
